A L B I O N House Crete

An old stone house in the delightful village of Pano Elounda, uninhabited for some 30 years, has been sympathetically renovated to provide a holiday-let house of character. Equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, it has been rebuilt using traditional Cretan building methods, and only original materials. See the house as we first saw it in November 2002.

The hamlet of Pano Elounda is perched on a mountainside overlooking the seaside resort of Elounda and its magnificent bay. Most of its streets are too narrow for cars, so you are more likely to see a donkey ambling past the windows of Albion House! The village itself is tranquil and scenic. A perfect place to relax and 'chill out'.
If you fancy a spot of local colour, try one of the three 'kafenions' or the new fusion restaurant 'APXONTIKO' at the west end of Pano Elounda! A small herb garden just outside the kitchen door is perfectly placed to catch the morning sun. The smell of fresh thyme and basil will mingle with the aroma of fresh coffee as you sit on your balcony on warm, clear mornings. The spacious roof terrace provides a splendid and secluded view and is fully equipped with a Summer kitchen and barbecue area.
Inside, the many original features include a quirky trapdoor staircase, a stable doors to the kitchen garden, the original wood-burning fournos which can be lit on chilly evenings and Cretan-style sink. Stripped wood floors, plastered stone walls, original doors help to give an authentic atmosphere to this comfortable house. There are even some bedrock outcrops in the kitchen of this house built directly into the mountainside.
For those guests who don't want to miss their favourite sports or other events, satellite TV and Internet access are available at Albion House. Due to its traditional design, this house is unfortunately not very well suited for very young children or disabled guests.
Albion House will be ready to welcome visitors in early Summer
2003. It is open all year, and will sleep up to 5 adults. It peace and charm make this a perfect holiday home for anyone who appreciates the spirit of rural Crete. The beach and the thriving resort of Elounda are, however, only 5 mins. drive away. With the 2004 Olympics in mind, we would point out that Heraklion's Pankritio Stadium (27,000 seats, site of Olympic football events from August 11 till 26) is an easy 50 minutes' drive along the New National Road. From Heraklion airport regular scheduled flights to Athens take approx. 45 mins. ( Special rates will apply during the Games.) To help you settle in and enjoy your holiday from its outset, may we suggest we arrange free collection from Heraklion or Siteia airports. Guest arriving at Chania airport can also book transfer to Albion House on payment of a small fee. A hire car of your choice can be delivered on your arrival at the house.
